In a bold and intimately personal exhibition, All Roads Lead to Mother presents a deeply layered exploration of motherhood through the intertwined perspectives of mother and daughter artists, Sam Pooley Stride and Daisy Pooley Tolkien Williams. Spanning painting, sculpture, embroidery, ceramics, and assemblages of cherished objets d’art. This multimedia show is both a confessional and a celebration; a life’s work forged through shared experience and creative kinship.

The exhibition traces the complex, often unspoken dimensions of maternal identity: the vulnerability of teenage pregnancy, the grief of baby loss, the invisible battle of endometriosis, the yearning to become a mother, the complexities of parenting both within and outside of partnership, the unspoken transition of Matrescence and the transformation of self through menopause.

In baring their souls, the artists transcend the personal, inviting audiences into a space of reflection, recognition, and healing. All Roads Lead to Mother is not only a tribute to the journey of motherhood but also a radical act of empathy and understanding. A show that asks us to look closely, feel deeply, and honour the many paths that lead us home.

Experience the art of modern calligraphy with Daisy Pooley-Tolkien-Williams in this engaging session designed for beginners.

Using a dip pen and ink, participants will learn the fundamentals of letterforms, stroke techniques, and composition. The workshop emphasises the meditative and expressive qualities of calligraphy, providing a relaxing environment to develop your skills.

A Solo Exhibition by Amy Rhodes

We are so excited for our next show: Verdia, a solo exhibition by emerging British artist Amy Rhodes, opening on June 5th.

This vibrant and expressive collection marks Amy’s first solo show and features a series of abstract landscapes and floral works that celebrate the beauty, energy, and emotional power of the natural world.

Taking its name from the Latin viridis, meaning green, fresh, and full of life. Verdia reflects themes of renewal, transformation, and growth. Through bold colour, intuitive brushwork, and organic forms, Amy’s paintings evoke the rhythm of nature and the deeply personal ways we connect to it. Her work invites visitors to pause, reflect, and rediscover joy in the everyday.

Created during a time of personal and creative expansion, Verdia is a celebration of life’s imperfections and ever-changing beauty. Each piece captures a sense of movement and emotion, encouraging viewers to embrace their own journey of growth, however gradual.

Introducing Amy Rhodes whose solo show VERDIA opens on 5th June. Amy is a British artist based in South Staffordshire, known for her vibrant and expressive paintings. Working from her home studio, she draws inspiration from the beauty of nature and the surrounding landscape. Her work captures movement, light and natural forms with an intuitive, emotional approach.

Amy’s paintings blend imagination and observation, using the colours, shapes and textures found in nature as a foundation for her creative expression. Her aim is to inspire a deeper appreciation of the richness and vitality of the natural world.

After studying Fine Art at university, Amy continued to paint while raising her three children. As her family has grown, she has returned to painting full-time. Since 2022, she has been sharing her work more widely and is now fully focused on her artistic practice, bringing her distinctive and uplifting vision to a growing audience. The show curated by Amy and founder of Swan Hill Studios will run from 5th - 20th June. Head to the link in our bio to attend the Private View.

Swan Hill Studio is proud to launch the Swan Hill Creative Workshop Programme, a new initiative in partnership with @lingendavies that will deliver free creative workshops throughout the year. Designed to support the emotional wellbeing of individuals living with and beyond cancer, these sessions offer space for creativity, connection, and community.

While the majority of workshops will take place at Swan Hill Studio in Shrewsbury, four special sessions will be delivered in the wider community, reaching participants across Powys, Telford, and rural Shropshire.

Rooted in the belief that creativity has the power to unite and uplift, this programme offers a series of artist-led workshops that provide a safe, welcoming environment to explore self-expression, learn new skills, and foster meaningful connections. While these are not clinical art therapy sessions, they are part of the growing field of therapeutic arts, helping reduce isolation and support mental wellbeing through non-medical means.

Led by experienced artists, makers, and facilitators from Swan Hill Studio’s vibrant creative network, The Circle, the programme features a wide range of sessions, from painting and pottery to jewellery making, calligraphy, and writing for wellbeing. Every workshop is designed to be inclusive, accessible, and empowering. No prior experience is needed.

The first three workshops are:

• Beaded Jewellery with @easthope.studio on Thursday 22nd May 2025
• Botanical Watercolours with @sampooleystride on Wednesday 12th June 2025
• Modern Calligraphy with @daisypooleytolkien on Friday 4th July 2025

Kaori is a Japanese ceramicist, living in Shropshire. Her stoneware collection is influenced by her Japanese heritage and English nature. Kaori is passionate about creating simple form that is functional and a small piece of art in your home. Every piece is unique and sometimes imperfect that reflects Kaori’s Japanese culture – finding beauty in imperfection.

Kaori’s aim for the collection is to introduce stoneware objects which can encourage people to find a simple thing to appreciate in everyday life, and a sense of stillness in this busy world we are living in.

Swan Hill got snail mail from the brilliant @revdancatt and his side kick Kitty today! We absolutely love following Dans artistic journey and his latest adventure of not using social media and going old skool to demonstrate his practice through sending Zines in the post. He is obviously so well practiced in this that he won’t see this post, luckily he is popping in for a cuppa later to discuss his Solo show in October so we can tell him ourselves!
