During lockdown, Daisy Pooley-Tolkien and Sam Pooley brought Compost Kids back to life, creating a series of fun and easy-to-follow Art Plans for families to enjoy at home. We are sharing them on here for you to do this summer!.
How It Works
Each downloadable PDF includes five creative information on a famous artists or art movement and activities designed for absolutely anyone to enjoy — from curious 3-year-olds to adventurous 100-year-olds. All you need is a little time, a bit of imagination, and whatever materials you have lying around.
A Note for Grown-Ups
We know not everyone finds arts and crafts easy or enjoyable — especially when life is hectic! That’s why we’ve designed these plans to be as stress-free and flexible as possible. They’re full of creative ideas to get you started, but feel free to adapt, interpret, or completely reinvent them. Remember: it’s all about the process, not the end result. There’s no right or wrong — just have fun!
A Note for Little People (and their grown-ups)
Some activities are perfect for kids to do solo, while others might need a little help. Look out for the rainbow splodge – that’s our signal for a task kids can dive into on their own (which hopefully means a few moments of peace for you too).
What You’ll Need
Compost Kids has always been about making the most of what you’ve got. We suggest hanging on to things like:
-
Loo rolls
-
Amazon boxes
-
Egg cartons
-
Plastic tubs
-
White paper & card
-
Paints, pens, pencils, glue
Don’t worry if you don’t have everything listed — improvising is part of the fun, and problem-solving is a creative win!
