The Bauhaus was an art school founded in Germany by architect Walter Gropius. From 1919 to 1933, the school taught architecture, design, fine art, and crafts. One of the main objectives of the movement was to bring together art, craft, and technology, and they embraced the machine to create industrial product design.

The principles taught in basic design are still taught in architecture schools throughout the world. They taught no history of art or craft so they could concentrate on new thinking.

Valeria Palmeiro, best known as Coco Dávez, is a self-taught painter and art director based in Madrid.

She began her career as an illustrator and now sells her work worldwide. Her creative collaborations include brands like Vogue, Chanel, Dior, Mini, Puma, and more.

One notable commission came from Netflix, who asked her to produce artwork for the series Stranger Things. Her use of bold, flat colour has become her signature style.

The work is both playful and striking, combining pop culture with minimalism. Through this approach, Coco Dávez has established herself as a contemporary artist with global appeal.

Ellen Gallagher is an American multimedia artist born in 1961. Her work explores themes of identity, transformation, and cultural history. She draws on both historical and contemporary sources, often referencing subjects such as marine biology, slavery, race, and popular Black culture. Gallagher blends personal biography with broader cultural narratives to create layered, thought-provoking work.

Her practice spans a wide range of media, including film, photography, collage, sculpture, and painting. By combining these techniques, she builds complex visual stories that invite viewers to reflect on race, memory, and representation.
Much of her early work was influenced by High Modernist abstraction, particularly artists like Agnes Martin. However, Gallagher uses that formal language to question rather than conform, disrupting minimalist traditions with content rooted in lived experience.

Through this multidisciplinary approach, she has become one of the most significant contemporary artists working today, redefining what it means to tell a visual story.

Yayoi Kusama is one of the most famous living artists in Japan. She began her career in New York, where she spent time with artists such as Andy Warhol and Joseph Cornell. In a male-dominated art world, she made her mark as a groundbreaking female artist.

During this time, she created her first Infinity Mirror Room—a space filled with mirrors and tiny lights, designed to fully immerse the viewer in a sense of endless reflection. Since then, she has produced over twenty versions. The Tate Modern recently hosted a year-long exhibition of these works.

Now based in Japan, Kusama works across painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. Her art is united by a singular obsession: dots.
As a child, she hallucinated fields of talking flowers, their centres covered in dots. She imagined becoming one of them. The motif still appears in everything—from her artwork to her clothes and living spaces.

Thierry Guetta, best known as Mr. Brainwash, is a French-born street and pop artist now based in Los Angeles. His work is often compared to that of Banksy and Andy Warhol—and if you look at both, it’s clear why. He combines screen printing and stencilling in his paintings and uses everyday objects in his sculpture, from typewriters to TVs.
Guetta repurposes imagery, incorporates neon lighting and mirrors, and leaves his signature mark: a riot of multicoloured, mixed-media paint splashes.

His subjects include film stars, pop icons, cartoon characters, and historical figures.
Like Banksy and Warhol, he comments on popular culture and modern life through bold, accessible visuals.

Guetta rose to fame in 2008 with his first solo show, Life is Beautiful, held in a former film studio in downtown Los Angeles. The exhibition drew huge crowds—more than 50,000 people queued to see it.
